June 2011: VOCM in partnership with Larry Perry, President of New Way Mississippi will be hosting our FIRST Pathway to Prosperity (P2P) - Circles class for MEN. Their journey will start in the 15 week "Getting Ahead" class, this month. The outcome of the class is that each participant will develop a list of life goals that encompass how they envision their life in the future and are supportive of moving from dependence to sustainability and personal responsibility. After this class, these men will be offered the opportunity to enter the Circles® process, in which they will be matched with Allies whose sole purpose is to assist them in reaching their goals.

More Good Results: VOCM Hosts "Bridges Out of Poverty Training" - September 9, 2010

and beyond were in attendance.
The speaker for the day was Karin VanZant, a certified Circles™ trainer. Karin Van-Zant introduced a framework for understanding poverty
based on the work of Ruby Payne. She reviewed the skills that enable organizations
and communities to become more effective in working with
people from different socio-economic backgrounds. Karin’s presentation
of the subject matter brought a refreshing new depth of understanding
along with practical ways to understand, communicateand work with
people to move them out of poverty.
Sept 2010 > A Great Start - "Getting Ahead" Workshops
We have had a GREAT first "Getting Ahead" workshop. "Getting Ahead" is a 13 week workshop, the first step in VOCM's P2P-Circles program to rebuild lives, where participants invistigate how the hidden rules of class can be used to build financial, emotional, social, and other resources. Understanding the hidden rules of class and choosing to use them can open doors to new relationships, new jobs, and higher resources.
At the conclusion of the workshops, Getting Ahead participants will not only have designed an action plan to build their own resources, they will also have completed a community assessment to pass on to community leaders and decision makers. This assessment provides leaders with important information adn feedback on the key issues that are keeping individuals in poverty within their own community.
